My foyer is “sunset” (a sort of terra-cotta)
and my kitchen is “sunrise” (deep yellow). My
painter never thought I’d have the courage,
because I’ve always had off-white walls. It
completely changed the character of these
rooms, and I love them, especially when we
have a sunny morning, as they both face the
east. Take a chance—you can always repaint!

I did my living room in a warm, classsic red;
the baseboards and ceiling are white. I have
a neoclassical Victorian collection of things,
so I think it works. My honey was scared,
but admitted he likes it. It’s not candy-cane
Christmasy as I had feared.
